Update a document without changing the URL

Replace a document uploaded to the website with a newer version without changing the existing URL for that document. This would apply to both single document pages and files on a "Documents" page.

I agree. IIf you make a hyperlink to a document, when you update the document, you break the hyperlink because the document ID number is changed as part of storing the document. This means you have to update anywhere you have used that hyperlink, which is a pain.

Replace pages

Provide the ability to replace an existing page with an updated version of the same page. Right now it seems the only way to accomplish this is to delete the existing page and then upload the updated version. You have to restate the page name and what folder to put it in. It would be easier to just state the page is a replacement page for an existing page on the page details, like the delete button. This would ask for the upload document and do the rest by deleting the old page, upload the new page and place in the same location as the old page.

Test Account Cieslak: Would you please clarify which page type you'd like to be able to do this with? Since pages can be edited, you shouldn't need to replace them each time you want to update the content. The only page types where you'd need to do that is with a single document or link page.

Meredith Owens: Mostly this would be for PDF documents such as financial reports or meeting minutes which tend to be single documents. Right now if you add a document with the same title the system adds it in addition to the existing titled one. If the system could ask if you want to add the same title in addition to the one already present or replace the existing one that would be good.

Test Account Cieslak: Having reviewed your websites, we see that you've used our "Documents" page for storing those files. We recommend using this page type, as it allows storing and displaying multiple files on a single page. Since you can upload additional files and delete old ones if needed, there isn't a need to delete the entire page to update its content. Additionally, you can edit the title of a file after it's been uploaded too.
For these reasons, we don't have plans to implement this feature request.

Meredith Owens: I am not talking about deleting the entire Documents page but the individual pdf pages on the document page. You can't edit a pdf file from your system so you h ave to replace the entire pdf document. By allowing a replace function it saves the step of deleting the old page and also the need to movbe the newly added page to the location of the old page since adding the replacement page puts the page at the bottom of the folder and you have to move the new page to the location of the old page.
Meredith Owens
Test Account Cieslak: I appreciate you clarifying exactly what you'd like to be able to do. After discussing this further with our product team, we've decided that the following open feature request would meet your need: https://feedback.hoa-express.com/feature-requests/p/update-a-document-without-changing-the-url.
Therefore, we'll be merging these posts and updating the description to include that this would feature would apply to both single document pages and files on a "Documents" page.

Ability to replace documents and keep the same URL
Vince McGowan
Having the ability to send links to documents is important. However, if a document needs to be updated, the existing document must be deleted in which case the URL to the new version has changed. Provide a 'replace' option that would delete the old version when a new document is uploaded and give it the same name/URL as the old document.

Question: What about responding to an email and having the document totally disappear ?
Meredith Owens
Webmaster Sierra Canyon: Could you explain further why you would prefer to take this action via email rather than going to the website?

I have run into this same issue.

What a good idea! I didn't realize how useful this would be. (A sym_link in the filesystem...)

If this is possible it would be great. Has always been an issue when updating docs
