Set default restrictions for new pages

The ability for administrators to define a default set of restrictions to use for new pages.

On our website, we prefer for almost all content be restricted to registered members only. But it is all to easy to forget to set that restriction. A user-settable default would allow us to make all our new pages restricted by default, but wouldn't affect any other website/users who don't change that default. Changing defaults by surprise is a big no-no, but allowing users to set their own defaults is a big plus.

Permit Default Restrictions

When we add a new page we don't have the option to set the restrictions at the time of creation... we are sent directly to the new page so we can start editing it. It would be useful if we could select a default set of restrictions for any new page (I would use the Board + PM group so I don't forget to set the restrictions and enter confidential data for the whole community to see).

I strongly agree with this. We would rather err on the side of too much of an initial restriction than too little. I would like not only to be able to set a default for new pages, but to be able to turn all "None" pages to the minimum setting in one fell swoop (he says as he clicks and sets and saves, clicks and set and saves...).
Our Board (or at least the majority), like some of your other potential customers is very conservative about public access and don't want any, in fact they probably would get all fidgety if they knew the Home page was unrestricted, as they probably don't want "outsiders" to even see our menu. It would be easier to sell if the registration process was done before a person could access the site at all.
But I still love this stuff!

John Howard: Thank you for providing this feedback. That's helpful for looking at this feature!
As a note, if you'd like to hide the restricted pages in your menu from those who are not logged in or don't have access to them, there is a setting you can enable! Instructions for how to do that are provided here: https://help.hoa-express.com/en/articles/2344238-hiding-restricted-pages-in-the-sidebar-menu.

I was surprised to find that by default all the pages were public -- I think this should be changed. Why require registration acceptance if they're public? I went through and reset each one but the language for the control wasn't clear -- maybe privacy? The current title wasn't a trigger for me to look and check.

Shannon Schroeder: We have the current default in place to allow each community to decide which pages they'd like to be available to anyone that visits the website, and which ones they'd like to be restricted to registered members.
When setting page restrictions, you can hover over the icon under the "Restrictions" column for a short explanation about what that tool does. On the next page, you'll click on the drop-down menu to select who you'd like to allow access to that page. More information about adding page restrictions can be found in these articles:

This would be great! We currently have an issue with a resident and a document that was placed in folder and not restricted. This would be very helpful considering you can't set a restriction on a folder.

We have three categories of registered members who generally are able to see all protected pages. To have a default set would be very helpful.

Hi Meredith - perhaps something like YouTube has. You have the choice of Everyone can see the file, Only the creator can see the file, or Unlisted which is only selected people are given the URL.
