Include optional questions on a survey
B
Barbara Cameron
When creating a survey, provide the ability to mark a question as optional to be answered.
ORIGINAL POST:
I did a survey with some Yes or No questions. If yes, then I had an addition question. There was no way to make it apply to only the Yes answer. I had to do a separate question, If yes.... Members who said no are forced to put some answer in Free Response before submitting. I would like a way to have questions apply after Yes or No and also the ability to submit a survey without answering all questions.

Provide ability to only respond to certain survey questions

Restrict responders' ability to answer only one of the survey questions asked. For example, if the survey is asking for feedback on two optional services, the respondent can only choose to answer yes to one of the options.

This would be very helpful. People get upset when they can't just end the survey and not do the rest of it

This would be incredibly helpful. Many times the answer is “no” and the rest of the survey doesn’t apply to them but you are still required to submit an answer. Not only does it muddle the results, many people don’t answer the surveys because they aren’t user friendly

This is a must, as I use surveys all the time.

I agree. We just created a survey to get input regarding future social events. The first question asked if the member was interested in social events. If they answered "No", we indicated to skip the remaining questions and hit submit, but the system would not let them do that

Agree, I would like to ask a question and include an optional "comments" question.

Don't make all survey questions mandatory

We had survey questions that were meant to be optional but all respondents were forced to answer them even when it made no sense.

Having the ability to mark the question, optional, would be helpful. In the meantime, we add a N/A as an additional answer.

Agree - we need to have the option of making survey questions optional.

Absolutely agree that an Optional property needs to be assignable to a question.
