Providing additional website template options. Additional colors, layouts, and styles.
Hi, I think it would be great if we could change the background margins size. For example currently the left and right sides of our website home page shows the left and right side of the background being 1/2 the size of our page on each side. I hope that is not confusing.
I like the option for "nature" options but fall leaves and pebbles for a Florida community doesn't work. Could you please add some other backgrounds that might work so we can change the background on occasion? Sunset...Beach...Sand....etc. Holiday options would also be nice. Flag, December holidays, etc. Thanks!
Would love some color options instead of the white background on each page.
@Margaretta Dorey: Our templates currently offer 15 other color options. Is there a color not currently offered you'd like to have available?
Current templates can be customized if you understand CSS by using Dashboard > Settings > Miscellaneous > Custom CSS to style the existing templates.
Rather than more templates, I would like to see this capability expanded by having each template add a page for common customization. For example, a form where admins could upload an background image, change colors on various elements, choose fonts, etc. (as appropriate for each template).
This would be a better solution than limiting admins to a bunch of built in templates that still may not give the look they want.
@Joseph Fry: I'm afraid this isn't something we would consider. We pride ourselves in producing incredibly user friendly software that doesn’t require you to be an expert website designer to use it. We don’t expect our customers to design their websites themselves, nor would someone be able to do so effectively without considerable design skills, so we won’t be releasing any features that ask them to do this.
@Meredith Owens: I think you misunderstand the request. I'm not pushing the CSS editing, which certainly would be advanced.
I am suggesting that each template include a set of customization options that a non-expert user would be able to easily adjust via a template specific configuration page.
This way, you would only need a dozen or so templates, but non-technical users could customize them to some degree to meet their desires.
For example, most Wordpress themes have theme options that an admin can configure via a UI: https://youtu.be/giawHh0RztI?t=29
@Joseph Fry: That is what we understood your request to be. I'm afraid this is not something we'd consider as it's our goal to make choosing the look and feel for a website a one-click process.
@Meredith Owens: That's a shame... I really think it would reduce/eliminate perpetual calls for more templates.
@Joseph Fry: I would have to agree with Joseph on this one. Having the ability to customize each page would be nice, nothing difficult just allowing the ability for each page to have it's own template design or follow the main one for the entire site. Some pages you may want to see a different background to get peoples attention.
@Jeff Rohrig: To clearify... I never proposed customizing each page. My suggestion was simply allowing the site admin to customize a handful of variables in the template (color options, background images, that sort of thing) via a template customization page.
@Joseph Fry: My apologize, I am recommending the exact same point.
@Meredith Owens: Meridith, I understand and appreciate your position on this. But my Board of Governers are pushing me to find a way to get more 'sex appeal' to the website. This is a major issue holding us back from introducing the website to our whole community. The BOG wants to explore all options for more 'sizzle' before we launch so that we don't get into a situation where we introduce the site and then change the whole look and feel by switching to another vendor.
Also, the fact that I can't tell them when any of the many requests for new features are going to appear hurts. The fact that there is nothing under your Under Review or In Progress heading doesn't help.
I agree about the need to have more template options...something tropical would be nice vs just pebbles for "nature"
How about some that reflect weather conditions. There is the fall leaves, but how about a spring, a summer, a winter cold, a snowy, maybe a rainy one as well.
I am using a White template but I would like to be able add color to home page, specifically highlighting News and Upcoming Events.
We need new eye catching colors, layouts, and styles. What is offered is very basic and blaaa.
Any updates on this request? It would be great for our community websites to be more professional looking with better templates.
