Attach notes to documents
John Howard
It would be useful if any document (single document, or one on a documents page) could have a text page attached for the addition of notes or comments.
For instance, a retrieved historical document where you could explain that the document is incomplete, or add some context, or explain why this document has been retained (i.e., its utility). This could be accessed by right-clicking on the document, and when a document has a note attached, a symbol would indicate that fact. Essentially, this would be like a note paperclipped to a physical document.

Would this be a note that only Admins could see, or notes for the whole community to see? I would find it useful to have both types of notes...both community-wide "public" notes and "behind the scenes" notes for multiple Admins/Board Members to see behind the scenes to communicate why something has been changed or edited by a particular Admin.

This would be extremely useful.

I love this idea and would use it on a lot of our older docs

Yes, I agree. I would like to be able to add comments as needed to explain items within a document or explain the document itself. The document page is very rudimentary.

I agree with John. In general, I find the "Document" page to be very rudimentary. Trying to add context in the leading text area does not align that context with the specific document.

John Howard: We can see how this would be useful, so we're keeping this post open to continue gathering feedback from our other users! In the meantime, you can use the leading text on a "Documents" page to share additional context about the files uploaded there.
