Archive news articles by date

It would be nice to allow for the archiving of articles so that they remain in the history for members to look at, but are not displayed in the list. Perhaps this can be tied into an expiration date for the article.

Archive for News

An additional button that provides the option to move and archive news posts rather than delete them
Jamie Kinn
Agree - some "News" posts contain information that may not necessarily be "timely" after a certain amount of time, but archiving for future reference would be helpful.

I would like to (respectfully) request that this feature request be re-opened.
Archiving articles separately (to someone's computer) is not a reasonable "work-around". I don't believe that an "Archive Now" option adds more complexity to the website, and honestly feel that its usefulness outweighs any difficulty.
As an example, we recently changed our trash collection service, and have had several "Updates" to share the process with residents. Although a particular article might be outdated (i.e., we no longer want to see it in our email blast, etc.), we don't really want to delete or remove it in case someone wishes to review or reference it. Alternatively, in a given week if we don't publish any "new" Update articles, the "outdated" articles (although potentially relevant), prior Articles may not necessarily be "news" any longer.
Thank you for your consideration.

Jamie Kinn: Since the "News Articles" page type already stores published articles on the page, members can currently access older articles by scrolling down the page. This doesn't require the admin to do anything with the articles or the user to take an extra step to be able to find those articles. Additionally, this ensures that content isn't buried in the website.
As for not showing older articles on the homepage, we have an open feature request for being able to select which articles appear on the homepage, which you're welcome to add your vote and comment to. You can view that post here: https://feedback.hoa-express.com/feature-requests/p/pick-which-news-articles-appear-on-homepage.

Archive folder for News & Updates
Jamie Kinn
There are sometimes "outdated" or no-longer-current articles that need to be removed from the News & Updates page that really shouldn't necessarily be deleted. An archive folder option would be nice.
Thomas Grobicki
how many articles will it keep? Will it show articles from this year, the last three years, the last 40 years (pre-internet I know).
Meredith Owens
Thomas Grobicki: There isn't a limit to the number of articles that will display on a "News Articles" page. As long as an article isn't deleted from this page, it will display there indefinitely.
Thomas Grobicki
I guess I wasn't explaining myself correctly. I'm suggesting that anything have an archive feature including articles, documents, pages, photo albums, and perhaps even members. Archived items are generally hidden from the interface, but can be made visible either through a setting on the member account ("Show Archived elements") or perhaps somewhere on the page if there are archived items ("Show Archived...").
Meredith Owens
Thomas Grobicki: Adding a separate archive feature for the different pages would add an extra layer of complexity to using and managing the website. If you'd like to have archived files, we recommend adding them to separate dedicated pages, and using the folders feature to organize them. This keeps the organization consistent, and the website easily navigable. Again, if you need assistance with setting this up, our customer success team is happy to help!
Also, if there are members who shouldn't be on the website, we recommend deleting them.

The "News Articles" page type currently stores all published articles on the page. The newest articles will always display at the top, so the user doesn't have to scroll down to view them. If they would like to view an older article, all they need to do is scroll down the page to find it. Since the page already functions this way, we don't have plans to introduce a separate archive functionality for it.
Thomas Grobicki
There could be two approaches. Once would be to just say "Archive Now" and other would be "Achive on {date}". We have a long history of articles that are not all that useful, but that we have to keep. By allowing archiving, we can put them away safely so that the user interface isn't cluttered with documents from 1970's, but they would still be available to view and download if someone said, "Show me all articles" (or documents.

Thomas Grobicki: Thank you for clarifying what you're wanting to do. It sounds like you're referring to documents rather than articles on a "News Articles" page. If you'd like to upload documents to your website and archive them, you can do so using our existing features! For step-by-step instructions, I would recommend reaching out to our customer success team.

Thanks for offering this suggestion. Would you please explain further how having this feature would benefit your community?

Meredith Owens: I like to keep our Announcement page current so people have incentive to go there. I delete articles after a week or two. However, a lot of articles posted, residents may like to review again. It would be great to have a link to “older posts” or something to that effect that are there if you CHOOSE to look at them. Thank you!
