Add comments to news articles
Mike Segroves
Include the ability to add comments to published articles on the "News Articles" page type. This way, readers can leave their thoughts and feedback about the article.
ORIGINAL POST
A page that could be updated periodically and the previous post would be moved to a sidebar, said sidebar containing two or three previous posts. When a post falls off the sidebar it automatically gets archived.

Yes, please put in a checkbox "Allow Comments" to the news article posting page. Leave it unchecked by default (but perhaps provide a user-settable default) That way, no surprises for folks posting new news articles, but those who want it can have discussions enabled. Right now we have a cumbersome policy of starting a discussion thread for each news article that bears community discussion, and putting a link in the news article to that thread. This works, but is unnecessarily cumbersome.

Perhaps clicking on a Comment choice could open (or link to) a comment/discussion in the Feedback Forum?
Otherwise, there could potentially be two separate threads of comments going on (one under the original article and one in the Forum), which could be confusing/annoying.
Plus, we have seen how "commenting" can rapidly deteriorate into "griping" on our Facebook page, and for that very reason usually opt to "turn off commenting" on informational posts/shares - too much policing necessary!

Jamie Kinn: The big difference between an HOA site and FaceBook is that you live in close proximity to the other people who are members and posters. You're likely to run into them at any time. That fact alone can damp down the animosity.

Mike Segroves: our Facebook Page/Group is a Friends & Family of our community group. For the most part, it is the exact same people who are using our website.

The news article page stacks new entries on top of the last entry, so it could serve in a limited way for a blog. But it doesn't allow for comments from readers. Forums page type does allow comments and would be a better way of working around the issue but still isn't a real blog page. Here's a link to an example of what I'm thinking about.

Mike Segroves: Thank you for expanding on this! We would consider allowing comments on news articles. This way, you could use the existing "News Articles" page for that purpose. I've updated this post's title and description to align with what we'd consider adding.

Based on the description, it sounds like this page would function similarly to the "News Articles" page type. Would you please explain further how this would differ?
