Ability to store extra address detail without an associated mailing address
Meredith Owens
For communities that are still in development and have lots without associated mailing addresses, provide them with the ability to store extra address details (like a lot number) without having to list a mailing address.

Our problem is if 2 or more lot owners enter just their street address, the app copies all of the lot numbers associated with that street from other records into the lot field. It’s as if the app assumes those records should be merged together.
Our workaround is to enter the street name and lot number into the street address field and pray an owner doesn’t just enter their street address.

We would need block and lot number

This would be very beneficial. We have homeowners who have purchased 2 to 3 lots and have built a single home, sometimes across 2-3 lots there. We want to classify this homeowner as one homeowner account that includes 3 lot numbers. We would send just one e-mail to this "account." We also have people who own several lots, but have not built homes on any of them. (Our lots have lot numbers and street addresses). We want to be able to send one e-mail to this owner, not several e-mails to the same person.

We have several like this and we label them all lot 500, which doesn't exist but enables us to know there is no defined lot number when we sort by address.

I had the same question. Here was the answer:
To enable them to enter their lot number while they create their account, I recommend including the extra address detail “Lot number.” Then, when your lot owners register, they can enter their street name and lot number.
To enable the extra address detail setting, "Lot number," you'll want to visit the "Settings" section in your Admin Control Panel and follow the step-by-step instructions in the help article: Storing extra address details.
Hope this helps!

Ginger Stahlhood: Thank you for sharing this, Ginger! These instructions work for those who have a lot and a registered address with the USPS.

I agree completely with John & Rhett. Our community is in such a small town that there's no postal service to the door, and none of the addresses in our development will validate. Our new residents are understandably confused about why they can't enter their address when registering for the website. We need a way to override the address checking feature. Plus, ours is a vacation home community, so many of our owners also have permanent addresses elsewhere.

Perhaps it would be better and easier to simply provide the ability to override address checking. This would allow one to include the expected address even in those cases when an "official address" has not yet been assigned.

John (Chip) Voss: There is currently a way to disable the address verification feature. However, we do not recommend doing this, as this affects some of the other functionality of the website.
Addresses are a core piece of data in our system that touch or are used by many other features. Address verification combined with address correction ensures that addresses are accurate and consistent, an assumption many of our features depend on to function properly.
This is why we are considering implementing the above request of being able to store extra address details without having to list a mailing address or disable the verification feature.

Meredith Owens: Lot numbers are relatively useless unless one has a plat in front of them. In my opinion the system needs the ability to contain "addresses" that are not in the USPS database, post office boxes or addresses for lots, for example. While I do not understand the details of the system or its data model, based upon what you have said, it appears the system treats null addresses "specially". It seems this same "special" logic could be applied to addresses with a "do not validate" attribute.

John (Chip) Voss: PO boxes are valid addresses that can be used and verified with our system. If you're experiencing difficulty with the address verification system, please contact our customer success team so we can work with you directly on this!

Yes, this would be very beneficial as many of our lot and cabin owners live outside of our association neighborhood. It would be nice to have a built in feature that captures the lot as well as cabin address as several owners have a lot with cabin with additional vacant lots.
